This historic home, built in 1822 by one of Central Virginia’s foremost furniture makers, had succumbed to deterioration and damage by vandals, the elements and animals. Dalgliesh Gilpin Paxton Architects thoroughly documented the structure on its original site and oversaw its dismantlement. It was moved, piece by piece, six miles to Michie Tavern where it was rebuilt as an interpretive house museum depicting rural mid-19th century life.
