The original Tavern was built in the early 1780s in northern Albemarle County. In 1928 it was disassembled and moved seventeen miles to its current location near Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello. Our firm restored the original tavern and the museum, and designed subsequent additions which house the dining rooms and commercial kitchens. The Michie Tavern complex is listed on the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places.
