The owners of Bridlespur Farm envisioned creating a retreat reminiscent of an old-world European garden to serve as an entertainment venue, a refuge for quiet relaxation, and source for fresh vegetables and flowers. An enclosure of wood and brick fencing grounds the garden in the surrounding landscape and acts as a barrier to wildlife. Potting and dining pavilions are integrated into the brick walls, and latticed pavilions with rose arbor wings provide shade as well as additional visual structure. The garden’s material palette of handmade wood-molded brick, vertical grain cedar, fieldstone, and slate, while virtually maintenance free, is delightfully picturesque.
