Esmont Farm

Esmont, an early nineteenth century country house with ties to Thomas Jefferson, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register. Esmont’s new owner sought to restore it with historical accuracy and integrity.  Dalgliesh Gilpin Paxton Architects worked in close collaboration with the preservation community, historians and artisans to guide the restoration of the interiors and exteriors of the main house, dependencies and landscape.  Careful detective work allowed for the return of the original configuration of the front porch columns, which had been altered in the early twentieth century. A new back porch takes advantage of existing Jeffersonian triple-sash windows without compromising the original fabric of the building.  We helped the owner secure a tax credit for the work and also provided interior design services.
