Dalgliesh Gilpin Paxton Architects, in collaboration with landscape architect Rachel Lilly, developed the master plan for this magnificent site at the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains. Our goal was to take advantage of the breathtaking views while creating a variety of outdoor experiences for the vibrant young family who would call Ivy Creek home. All elements of the composition – house, drive, stone walls, landscaping, and pool – work in harmony to weave a sinuous path through the property. The progression of spaces grows ever more intimate moving from the main house to the porches, down to the pool area, and finally on to the Secret Garden beyond. The entrance drive gently winds through woods and around the house to preserve unobstructed views and create a sense of anticipation upon arrival at the forecourt. The view side of the property allows for a play lawn and tent space for large events. Integrated into the master plan at a distance from the main house are the orchard and the adjacent solar field that powers the net zero house.
